Peace Wapiti Public School Division announces new District Principals

Erin MacLellan Mike Lauzon

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is pleased to announce two new District Principals for the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Erin MacLellan has been named the new District Principal of Inclusive Education, while Mr. Mike Lauzon will take on the new position of District Principal of Educational Services.

Mrs. Erin MacLellan, who is a Sexsmith Secondary School graduate, has worked for PWPSD for the past 18 years, and is currently supporting students and staff as an Inclusive Learning Coach. She holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and recently earned her Master of Education. As District Principal of Inclusive Education, Mrs. MacLellan will be responsible for Early Childhood Services, Kindergarten and Program Unit Funding.

Mrs. MacLellan began her teaching career teaching Grades 1 and 2 at Robert W. Zahara School before moving to Clairmont Community School where she also taught Grade 1. She says she is excited to support and collaborate with the division’s Early Childhood Services students, staff, parents, and educational partners. “Early childhood is a wonderful time to set a solid foundation of rich, meaningful learning experiences and I am honoured to be supporting our families and learning teams to continue to build on the wonderful work that has already been started at PWPSD.” Mrs. MacLellan has played an important role on the PWPSD Inclusive Education team since 2016.

Mr. Mike Lauzon has been with PWPSD for over 20 years and is currently enjoying his 10th year as Principal of Sexsmith Secondary School. As District Principal of Educational Services, Mr. Lauzon will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the new Grades 7-12 curriculum, the development and utilization of locally developed courses and dual credit programs, and the administration of Diplomas and Provincial Achievement Tests. He holds a Master of Coaching Leadership from the University of Queensland, and Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lethbridge.

Mr. Lauzon is looking forward to supporting the greater PWPSD community and sharing his experience in Divisions 3 and 4 with other administrators. “I have enjoyed the past 10 years at Sexsmith Secondary and it is very difficult to leave such a great school and community. I hope to share the great things that we have accomplished together with other schools in the division.” Mrs. MacLellan and Mr. Lauzon will begin their work as District Principals this fall.
